Technical Assessment
RAI provides an evaluation of your electric
power system protection. This includes design, installation, integration,
maintenance, operation analysis, and the accomodation of system changes.
Consideration is given to your use of technology, standards, as well as
available in-house expertise. Use the final assessment to take the next
step in improving the protection, reducing operating costs, planning for
upgrades, and/or further utilization of existing resources.

1. Quote/Agreement
After you decide to have a technical assessment peformed for your company,
notify RAI. You will receive a one-page quote/agreement for the service
and a schedule form. Mail or fax the signed quote/agreement back to RAI.
2. Schedule Form
Discuss possible dates with RAI. Fill out the form to identify the focus,
schedule, and participants. Mail or fax the schedule form. Once you and
RAI agree on a schedule, arrangements are made for the technical assessment.
3. Interviews
RAI interviews experienced engineers, operators, technicians, and management
to assess the protection system. The interviews provide insight into how
decisions are made, what technology is accepted, and how the protection
system is designed, installed, operated, and maintained.
4. Substation Walk-down
RAI observes a typical substation, assessing the physical structures in
general, noting panel/rack layouts, technology used, and general installation
philosophy. This walk-down provides a forum for observing and discussing
the physical aspects of the protection system for one substation. Prints
are reviewed as necessary.
5. Presentation and Report
RAI consolidates the observations and data obtained into a report of the
protection system. The report is reviewed in an open discussion presentation.
The report provides a basis for taking the next step in improving the
protection, reducing operating costs, planning for upgrades, and/or further
utilization of existing resources.
